Resilience
The communities of Houghton, Paracombe, Inglewood and Hermitage are currently forming our own Community Support Hub. The Community Support Hub emerged from a series of “Redi-communities” workshops conducted by the Australian Red Cross, and is supported by the Adelaide Hills Council’s Community Resilience initiative.
The aim of the Community Support Hub is to:
- Provide a centre to support for affected members of the community in the 72 hours immediately following a disaster in our area. For example a bushfire or storm, and the associated power, water, transport and communications outages.
- The aim is to provide a bridge between the time immediate after the emergency event, until the time that outside recovery services can take over. Support could include facilitating shelter, meals, phone charging, or directing people to relevant services.
- Coordinate the provision of volunteers and resources to community members in need.
- Prepare information, resources and access grants.
If you are interested in volunteering, please get in touch via our contact details at the bottom of the page.
The planning group is currently meeting every 2 months.
